Meet Amelia C. Williams

Meet Amelia C. Williams

At FACE Stockholm, we believe love takes many forms — romantic and platonic, shared and private, seasonal and enduring. This Valentine’s season, under our theme Love in Every Shade, we’re celebrating the full spectrum of love: love for partners, friends, family, community, and self and the ways these relationships shape how we see ourselves and show up in the world.

As a brand rooted in self-expression, we’re continually inspired by women who speak honestly through their own creative language. That’s what drew us to Amelia C. Williams. We invited Amelia to transform our Hudson storefront windows and in-store space throughout February with flowers., a mixed-media installation that explores love as something layered and evolving, particularly the kind of self-love that is sustained through friendship, support, and being deeply seen. Her work will be on view all month, culminating in a Valentine’s Day exhibition opening on February 14 from 1–5pm. We’re honored to host Amelia’s work in our space and to welcome our community to gather, reflect, and celebrate together.

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

The quote “to the stars who listen and the dreams that are answered” was sent to me in a text by my best friend, Allie, after I had been creatively dumping—unsolicited. She added, “It’s from a cheesy fairy romantasy book.”
Even better.

flowers. is a new series born from The Lovebugs, an ongoing body of work that began on February 14, 2023, exploring mental health, attachment, and the ways personal history shapes connection. Built in real time and influenced by quotes, music, film, and pop culture, the work documents lived moments through mixed media installations assembled like moodboards suspended in time. Over time, the project revealed how romantic patterns—and the pursuit of love—had shaped my emotional world in unhealthy ways, prompting a deeper examination of self-love and connection.

As the work evolved, it became clear that self-love wasn’t a solitary act, but something sustained through support. In the process, I also deepened my relationship to myself as a Black woman. As a light-skinned, mixed-race woman, occupying that identity had often felt complicated. Through the work, I found the strength to stand fully in that experience and recognize it as valid.

flowers. reflects growth and the love that surrounds you. The flowers represent me—self-portraits rooted in becoming—and also serve as gestures of recognition toward other Black women whose efforts often go unseen. Flowers in the ground represent growth; flowers in a bouquet mark celebration. Together, they suggest balance: like a garden, growth requires nourishment beyond the self.

The flowers exist in a nighttime landscape, always leaning upward toward the stars and the moon. The stars represent an audience or ideal the work speaks toward. The moon represents my dreams and the forces that govern them—a recurring motif throughout my work, alongside cross symbols, pointing to what we turn to in moments of searching. Always bright yellow, the moon acts as a guiding light. Many of the works are intentionally soft, light, and in motion—floating or dancing freely through the air.

ABOUT AMELIA

Amelia is a mixed race, mixed media artist and director known for raw, emotionally charged work rooted in mental health, racial identity, and social reflection. Blending early 2000s emo culture with pop references, her pieces weave together abstract doodles, poetry, photos, and text to explore connection through vulnerability.

Her ongoing series, The Lovebugs, appears in unexpected places to meet people where they are—reminding them they’re not alone. Each installation acts as a living moodboard, connecting the dots between her core themes of emotion, healing, and human experience.

Williams has shown work at Upstate Art Weekend, Basel at Night, Fahrenheit 451, The Black Library, LotusWorks, Camp Kingston Gallery, and Blooming Hearts Studio.
