Been there, done that! We couldn’t make this stuff up!
What is the career experience that taught you the most?
It’s hard to pick one incident. Working with people from all walks of life you find out first hand that all the beauty, money and fame in the world cannot ensure happiness. You must find a way to do what you love, to be who YOU want to be.
Can you tell us the craziest thing that’s ever happened on a job?
Ha! The event that comes to mind I can’t reveal (I could probably be sued!) Lets just say it involves a celebrity, a private jet, and a manager and bodyguard that quit in the middle of the trip so that the stylist and I had to do it all!
Who is the most influential person you’ve encountered along the way?
David Bowie, hands down. He’s such an inspirational man in so many ways.
What was your most memorable response to a makeover?
We both cried. I taught a woman how to properly cover a scar on her face that had haunted her her entire life. Her tears of relief made me cry too.
Here & Now, Living in Color
What do you enjoy most about your current work?
I love teaching the psychology of touch, reminding students that it should feel relaxing to have your makeup done, most students never even think of this as an important aspect of being a good artist, but it really is.
Who is a prominent person today who you find most regularly influences customer’s style/makeup choices?
It’s mostly celebrities it seems, Kendall Jenner perhaps? Brides still bring pics of Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston.
What is the product of the moment?
Anything that shimmers or glows or sparkles! (FACE Stockholm Glitter Stick, Skimrande shimmer lotion, Highlighters, Loose Powder in gold or silver)
What is the trend you love?
I was really into the dark lip. All winter and spring I wore Saint, Hero, Fearless, Beloved, great dark shades from FACE Stockholm. I will no doubt go back to those deep colors in the fall, but in the summer with a tan I’ve been wearing Matte Sangria and Gazpacho, so bright and fun!
Tomorrow’s Another Day, A New Look
What is one thing career related you’d still like to accomplish?
I think I just did. I worked on David Bowies last project, the two videos and pictures for the Blackstar album. I am so incredibly honored to have been part of that. I am so in awe of his life and everything he created.
Who is someone you’d love the chance to makeover?
Anyone I see who is wearing a mask of makeup, it makes me want to wipe it off and see what beauty lies beneath!
What is something industry related you’re looking forward to?
I’m really looking forward to celebrating FACE Stockholm’s most recent award with our makeup team. We have won Best Makeup Store in Hudson Valley Magazine’s October 2016 Best Of issue! I’m so proud!
The future of makeup, what are the changes you’d like to see?
I would love women to feel freer to express themselves, to be celebrated for their individual style and beauty, rather than trying to fit into the media’s mold. The idea that there is only one beauty ideal and if you don’t fit into that there is something wrong with you and you need to fix it or cover up with makeup-THIS I would love to see change! The great thing about makeup is that it washes off, so you can really play, experiment, do something different every day. You can express how you feel just by the lipstick shade you chose.
